3. Infatuated love
“Hey Cortana” probably was the first time I was talking to her, breaking the silence across the room.
“Is love at first sight possible?” I almost whispered so that Raghav and Anant couldn’t get a hint of it. I glanced at them making it sure they weren’t hearing me peeping along the hem of my laptop.
It was the first time I was taking relationship suggestions from someone, though after six breakups and an ongoing relationship; I was there lying on my bed asking a virtual assistant about falling in love at first sight.
“I couldn’t get you” she replied. Didn’t she really get me? Or did she really not get why I was asking a question like this after such an impressive relationship statistics? Neither did Cortana sound sure about it. She was pretty good with diplomatic answers. I have seen my friends proposing her, abusing her, ask whether she would be allowing them to fuck her or not; she was pretty good almost every time. Probably, it wasn’t her day.
I asked her again with my mind still managing its presence in the classroom struggling to escape the memories of staring at the strange girl.
Google must have an answer for it. It even has been answering for enlargement of breasts and the ways to get dick bigger in a week. How could she not have an answer for that? She must have, I consoled myself.
After spending an hour browsing and going through the blogs and articles, I realised I was in it from the very first second. They say if it’s love at first sight, you will never stop looking at her and so did I, the entire morning.
“The Casanova is finally in love,” I said to myself. So what was it that made him fall in love with a girl whom he had seen only once? Was it her beauty or her simplicity that made her so soothing and pleasant to him? Was it life that was making him realise it is full of uncertainty and complication? Was it infatuation that was distracting him? Or was it finally the thing we go through books and movies, the true and loyal one; love?
I was surprised by my own behaviour. Mind often make us see what we don’t want it to see. Maybe, I was thinking too much; and in order to distract my mind from her, I called Rashi. She didn’t pick up my call. It barely happens she does stuff like this. It would have been a three-month relationship and this had happened only once.
My phone was in my hand and Anant while asleep murmuring “Nahi nahi! Hame dusra investor dundhna padega(We have to find new investors).”
He was twenty-one and he does it often. No, not somniloquy but finding a new investor. Nobody had ever satisfied him, except Natasha Malkova. He didn’t say it either, but this was what his porn collection speaks. He was one of the best persons I had ever got. I loved him more than any of my girlfriends but wasn’t sure about this new girl. He was a bit of arrogant guy who had started two start-ups in the last two months. First was ‘Hitcher’ and the other was ‘Delhi Dreams’. Hitcher was basically a traveller’s kind of idea, if you are travelling in a city and want to hire a vehicle and move around the city… you can heir a cab to travel the place with some security money paid before, which would be returned after the submission of the vehicle… Something like that; and ‘Delhi Dreams’, was a creativity hub for young hidden talents in Delhi. It boosts them and by their plan they were guiding each talent to reach the best place where they deserve to be and were planning to do the same in Kolkata too.
On the other side Raghav, Raghav Rathore was the only son of Raj Vardhan Rathore, one of Delhi’s richest people. He was a kind of bookworm with a girlfriend and a rich dad. Most of the people used to say he had reached the college after filling the pockets of the university. I asked him the same question and what he replied was
"Why shouldn't I use my father money? What's wrong in it?"
I was shocked and even made others shocked and then one day I saw all his trophies and certificates he won in science oplmpiard and his mark-sheets. I hugged him, told him sorry and even told him about what wrong I did to him narrating him about the people among whom I had spread his rumour. I asked him if he hadn't, then why didn't he told me the truth. He said smilingly "You wouldn’t have believed me in either case," and that was the day the boy won my heart.
It was a type of flashback and all of sudden Raghav murmured in his sleepy voice "Who's the one?"
I didn't respond thinking him to be one of his sleep talks.
"Who's the one?" throwing the pillow at me. I was all in my world and a pillow got stuck my face.
"What?" I said annoyingly.
"Love at first sight?" his words drowning sloppy.
I shouldn't have done it but I smiled and I was caught red handed. If I was in front of a girl I bet I haven't smiled rather I would be acting shocked with all the best expressions I would have needed to overcome the situation.
Raghav flew from his bed onto Anant's bed like a kangaroo, slapped him hard on his hips and on the next step he landed onto my bed with all excitement and happiness on his face.
Anant woke up scratching his head in anger, leaned down and again it flew like a space-ship on to my face hitting except this time it wasn’t a pillow, it was his slipper.
“Fuck you! Ass hole” throwing it back to him.
"Who's the girl?" Raghav asked holding my collar.
I acted like this isn't a big thing and so that they could insist me "I don't know her. Her name is Monalisa, Shruti told me."
"And" screamed Raghav.
"That's it."
"Do you even know her surname?" said Anant with an expectation of yes in his eyes.
"No."
"You said, Shruti told you. Let's check in her friend list" suggested Raghav.
Raghav pulled up Anant's laptop from the table and opened his account "Hamare facebook me Shruti nahi hai. Hum ladki log ko friend request nahi bhejte h. Khali accept karte hai."(Shruti isn't in my friend list. I don't send friend request to girls.) and turned the laptop towards me to log into my account.
She wasn't difficult to find. “I found you… Mona” I whispered. There she was a click away. I clicked on her name in Shruti's friend-list.
“Is she a girl? She rather look like your brother.”
“Will you shut up? Raghav”
Anant reads:
Monalisa Sen(Mona)
I smiled.
